Paintings

I paint seemingly light-hearted images of fantasy landscapes, imaginary spaces, animals, faces, and other objects. They reflect my way of perceiving the world. Symbols of decline and growth, movement in space, rhythm, and balance and energy of the forces of nature are the topics which I like to transform into new forms of painting. I am interested in ecology and in the way nature works. The themes may not be depicted in a straightforward manner. I like to approach them and then pause for a while. I often create a whole series of paintings focusing on one theme which helps me get closer to its real substance.

I put great emphasis on work with colour and its texture in the spirit of the best colouristic expression tradition. I let colour run and blot. I sometimes apply colour in thick layers or transparent glazes in order to highlight the great range of options this medium provides. At the start, my work is generally very spontaneous, but at a certain point, the flow of subconscious impulses needs to be aimed in the right direction. Tension is important both within the painting and between the viewer and the painting.

I create an imaginary world squeezed into the limited space of the canvas. The depicted motives often prevent the viewers from entering this world freely. I want them to adopt an active approach to be able to find out what is hidden.
